Electronic or acoustic drum-set?
Should you buy and electronic drum-set or an acoustic one? At Musiprof, we feel that the acoustic drum set offers a more complete learning experience. This is because learning the drum set helps the student learn to understand “touch” and how to bring the sound out of the instrument. Perhaps we are simply old fashioned ;)
Many city dwellers simply cannot have an acoustic drum-set in their homes, because of the loud volume. If this is the case, electronic drum-sets are the way to go. If you would like to learn more about choosing the right electronic drum set, read our article how to choose the best electronic drum set for your needs.

The price of drum lessons in Vancouver depends on teaching experience and duration.
What makes a good drum teacher?
The most important quality of a drum teacher is listening. A good teacher should listen to what his student is interested in and adapt his lessons accordingly. Of course being experienced and having knowledge of the many different areas of drumming is important as well. A good drum teacher is constantly monitoring and adapting his or her lessons to see if the student is passionate about the material and progressing.
What age should you start drum lessons?
Drum lessons can start as of the age of 5 years old. That being said, 5 year olds will have a bit of trouble reaching the pedals of the drum kit, so having a smaller drum set at home will be helpful for them to practise. Most drum teachers do not have child size drum sets, therefore waiting for a child to be 8 or 9 might be ideal to take lessons.
Can I learn drums at 40?
At Musiprof, we have drum students aged 40, 50 and even over 65. Many studies have show that the human brain continues to be plastic at older ages, therefore the drums can be learnt at any age. Adults even have the advantage of being better at listening to comments of their teacher as well as having better practising habits.
Is learning drum technique or rudiments important?
Learning technique is one of the fastest ways to improve as a drummer. It is through rudiments that drummers can improve their technique. Drum instructor Elijah Baker has put together a few great articles on the topic.
