Academic Pedigree

Voice teachers serving Mile End trained at the Schulich School of Music at McGill, Université de Montréal and UQAM, with others from the Conservatoire de Montréal and Vincent-d'Indy. Their backgrounds cover classical voice, jazz and popular styles.

Many are performing singers themselves, active on stages across the city. Musiprof reviews each teacher's training and experience before they take on students.

Local Presence

Most voice lessons in Mile End happen at home: teachers travel into the neighbourhood, reaching the flats and lofts around Saint-Viateur, Bernard and avenue du Parc. Métro Laurier, Rosemont and the 80 bus make scheduling straightforward.

Singing in the neighbourhood that launched a generation of indie bands has its own logic; the venues, open mics and choirs your teacher will point you toward are often within walking distance.

Curated Expertise

Lessons cover healthy technique first — breath, range, pitch — then apply it to your style, whether that is indie and pop, jazz standards, musical theatre or classical repertoire. Songwriters who want to sing their own material are common students here.

Teachers also prepare students for auditions, recordings and first performances, skills in real demand in this part of the city.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any hidden fees or subscriptions?

No. The price on a teacher's profile is the full price you pay — no subscriptions, no contact fees. Some teachers who are members of the GMMQ (Quebec Musicians' Guild) include a pension surcharge, but this is always included in the displayed price. You are only charged when a lesson is confirmed by your teacher.

Do you offer in-person lessons near me?

Yes — Musiprof primarily connects you with teachers near you for in-person lessons at home or in studio. Online lessons are also available. Beyond private lessons, we offer a band program and community recitals for a complete musical experience.

What happens after I purchase?

The teacher will contact you within 24–48 hours to schedule your first lesson. If there's no contact within that window, Musiprof follows up on your behalf.

What is the refund policy?

You only pay for lessons taken. We refund untaken lessons minus a small cancellation fee (the lesser of $50 or 10% of the remaining value).

How frequently do lessons unfold?

By default, lessons are designed to be taken once per week to help you maintain consistency and momentum. A 5-lesson package, for example, is intended to be completed in 5 consecutive weeks. However, we understand that every student's goals are unique. If your teacher agrees, lessons can be scheduled at a different frequency (e.g., every 2 weeks or once per month). Please discuss your preferred schedule with your teacher during your first contact. Your package includes a 30-day grace period after your last scheduled session. If you are doing bi-weekly lessons, ask your teacher to extend your session dates in the system to ensure your file remains active.

Is there a Satisfaction Guarantee?

Yes! We want you to find the perfect match. If your first session isn't right, contact us within 48 hours. We'll credit 50% of the lesson cost back to your account so you can try a different teacher immediately.

Why should I pay through Musiprof instead of paying my teacher directly?

Paying through Musiprof is what keeps you protected — the Satisfaction Guarantee, refunds, and dispute support only apply to payments made on the platform. Paying a teacher directly (cash, e-transfer) voids those protections, and we can't help if something goes wrong. If a teacher ever asks you to pay outside Musiprof, please let us know.

Is Musiprof like a music school with semesters?

No. Musiprof has no semesters, terms or registration deadlines. You start with a single first lesson, covered by our Satisfaction Guarantee. After that, you continue at your own pace: buy a package of lessons or pay lesson by lesson. Unused lessons are refundable, and you can switch teachers at any time.

Do I have to buy a package?

No. After your first lesson, you can buy a package (usually a better price per lesson) or pay à la carte, where your card is charged after each completed lesson. Each teacher sets their own prices and lesson formats (in studio, at home or online), so check their profile for the details.

More about singing lessons

Won't my neighbours hear me singing in my apartment?
They might hear some of it, and that is normal in Mile End, where music coming through walls is part of the neighbourhood. Teachers schedule lessons at reasonable daytime hours and much of vocal work is quieter technical exercise, not full-volume singing.
Why do voice lessons happen at my home rather than a studio?
Your home is where you will actually practise, so learning to sing comfortably there matters. The teacher brings everything needed — usually just a keyboard or an app for reference pitch — and you skip travel entirely.
What if my voice teacher isn't the right match?
Voice is personal, and fit matters more than in most instruments. If it is not working after a lesson or two, request a rematch and we will pair you with another coach serving Mile End, with your goals carried over.
Can lessons connect me to the local music scene?
Often, yes. Teachers who serve Mile End tend to know the open mics, choirs and venues nearby, and can tell you when you are ready to try one. For many students a first low-stakes performance is a planned milestone in the lessons.
