Hi there, I am a 30 year old musician and music teacher from the Toronto area in Ontario. Ive been teaching performing and recording music for about 15 years, in a variety of styles ranging from blues, rock, pop, funk, jazz, metal, R&B and more. I have taught both privately and in commercial stores, and have been the drummer for jazz quartets in Toronto and Peterborough, have played both drums and guitar in pop, rock, blues and jazz contexts, and have recorded and been featured on albums, one of which is linked below. I have an excellent knowledge of music theory and the elements of music and a well trained ear. I continue to be a part of ongoing musical projects creatively and as a recording artist and performer, and have a great passion for the art of music, as well as an aptitude for communication, patience, and inspiring other around me to appreciate and learn music. I think I would be a great fit in the online teaching space, I have a more than adequate internet connection and a audio/video set up, and would be happy to work with students to accommodate to their needs.
I approach teaching with an openness and curiosity to understanding what each individual student is motivated and inspired by in music. I want to understand what inspires students about music, and plan my approach based around that, while also having strong principles surrounding what approaches I think work for people on a general level. I have experience teaching all ages and skill levels, and am competent in a wide variety of styles, including pop, rock, jazz, funk, blues, and more. I am specialized in fingerstyle, jazz, rock, and lead guitar, and jazz, rock, and R&B drums. I think a combination of learning the language of music theory, practicing mechanical exercises to remove the barrier between the imagination and the body, learning practical examples from written music, ear training through active listening and exploring the connection between music theory and our intuitions and feelings about how things sound are all aspects of what i will be teaching in my lessons. Thanks for listening
