Hello! My name is Mattea and I am a music teacher as well as an aspiring musical theatre composer. Making music with others has been a great source of joy throughout my life. I started taking piano classes at the age of 6, and went on to sing in choirs, perform in school musicals, and play flute in concert and jazz bands. I spent most of my life moving countries every few years for my dad's job. I've lived in Nigeria, Angola, the UAE, Guyana, China, and finally I've settled in Canada. I am a native English speaker but I also speak a bit of Spanish. I am going into my 4th year at McGill University where I am completing my Bachelor of Music and Bachelor Education. I studied classical piano with Dr. Julia Gavrilova who was a former student of Prof. Marina Mdivani at McGill.

As a music teacher, I prioritize fostering the students' love of music the most. I am also very adaptable to many different learning styles, often adjusting my lesson plans to fit everyone's needs. My foundation is in classical music, which focuses mainly on good technique and virtuosity, but I do others styles as well. I offer lessons in piano, flute, classical, jazz, pop, songwriting, music theory, and conducting. Due to the range of lessons I offer, the curriculum for each differs immensely, but you can expect me to include the same fundamental training in each. My lessons will always include technique, music theory, learning new repertoire, and musical creativity.
