KOSTANTINOS MATZAFleris Pianist • Composer • Music Educator • Arranger • Music Producer Toronto, Ontario, Canada Professional Piano Studio • Studio MK-72 PROFESSIONAL PROFILE Professional pianist, composer, arranger, music educator, recording engineer and music producer with more than two decades of teaching and performing experience in Greece and Canada. Classically trained through the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Glenn Gould Professional School, with advanced studies in piano performance and pedagogy, harmony, counterpoint, keyboard harmony, composition, classical and jazz improvisation. Since 2000, I have taught piano and musicianship to students of different ages, levels and musical interests, developing an individualized teaching approach that combines strong technical foundations with musical creativity, expression and enjoyment. My teaching philosophy is centered on helping students understand music not simply as printed notes, but as a language of expression and communication. TEACHING PHILOSOPHY I encourage my students to experience music as a language and to learn how to make the printed notes come alive through phrasing, musical questions and answers, dynamics and articulation. I teach students to recognize that a musical phrase can communicate almost like a conversation. The balance of loudness, articulation, timing and phrasing allows music to develop naturally as a dialogue rather than simply becoming a sequence of correctly played notes. Rhythmic training, ear training, sight-reading and sight-singing are fundamental components of my teaching. Combined with piano study, they gradually strengthen the student's reading ability, musical awareness and inner ear while allowing the student to expand repertoire with increasing independence. Above all, I believe that students should develop a love and appreciation for the piano and for the gift of music. My goal is not simply to teach students how to practise.
