Jeffrey Fong is a composer currently based in Montreal, Canada. He studied music composition at McGill Schulich School of Music under the guidance of John Rea and Melissa Hui. He is currently being mentored by the distinguished composer and music educator Alan Belkin. Recent engagement includes participating in Orford Musique’s composition workshop, under the guidance of composer Christos Hatsiz. As part of the program, his composition “Flora” was premiered under the baton of Veronique Lacroix, conductor of Ensemble Contemporain de Montreal. Aside from composition, Jeffrey is also active in the field of music pedagogy. As a teacher of music theory, Jeffrey’s mission is to introduce the often neglected fundamental elements and concepts of music to his students. To Jeffrey, music theory is never “theoretical”, but completely practical. Being a late starter himself, Jeffrey more than understands the struggles of a beginner and is able to bring a unique teaching approach to the field of pedagogy.
