About

Thomas LaGrange earned a Master of Music from the University of Toronto in 2022 where he studied with Megan Hodge and a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Alberta in 2020 where he studied with Kathryn Macintosh. He was the recipient of the U of T Fellowship in Music in the first year of his studies and the Nour Private Wealth Award in the second year of his studies at the University of Toronto. He has also studied with Associate Principal of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Vanessa Fralick, members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra Kathryn Macintosh, John McPherson, and Chris Taylor, and Principal Trombonist of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Erik Hongisto, as well as Alden Lowrey. He won the University of Alberta Concerto Competition in 2019 and was a runner-up in the same competition in 2018. He was awarded the Harvard Broadcasting Award in his first year of studies at the University of Alberta. Thomas is currently Principal Trombone of the Kindred Spirits Orchestra for the 2022-23 season and plays Assistant Principal Trombone with Orchestra Toronto. He has also performed with the Toronto All-Star Big Band and the River City Chamber Orchestra in Edmonton. He is a freelancer working throughout the Greater Toronto Area, having performed in the world premiere of the one-act opera "Gould's Wall" by Liza Balkan and Brian Current which was produced by and performed at the Glenn Gould School.
