My name is Steve and I have been a professional guitarist for over 15 years. I attended McGill University and the New England Conservatory of Music, where I obtained a Master's degree in jazz guitar performance. In 2016, I was chosen as one of 10 finalists from across the globe for the Montreux (Switzerland) jazz guitar competition. After graduating from NEC I moved to New York City in 2018, where I performed and recorded with a multitude of bands and artists. I moved to Toronto after signing a co-publishing deal with world-renowned music producer T-minus and have since worked with artists such as J Cole, Nelly Furtado, Lil Nas X and more. Most recently, I was nominated for a grammy for my work on J Cole's "Might Delete Later". I offer private guitar lessons and as well as recording/production services. My lessons are focused around the importance of mastering the fundamentals and building your skills gradually over time. Through my 15+ years of teaching I have noticed that students who learn the fundamentals properly are able to continue to improve into the future and reach much higher levels than those who do not. I stress the importance of proper technique, strumming and rhythm as well as music theory and learning the notes on the instrument, and build from there. Each student is different and my lessons vary for each of them, however, they all learn the same fundamentals in time. More advanced students can expect more personalized and topic-specific lessons discussing anything from improvisation, phrasing, advanced theory, triads and more.
