About

Sidony Delaporte began playing the cello at the age of seven at the Pantin Conservatory with Anaïs Moreau. Motivated in particular by his participation in several summer academies in France, he decided to continue his training at the Paris Regional Conservatory in Marie-Paule Milone's class. During this time, he also received guidance from renowned teachers such as Xavier Gagnepain, Marc Coppey, Raphaël Pidoux, Marie Hallynck, Marie-Thérèse Grisenti, and Éric-Maria Couturier. Alongside his studies, teaching played an important role in his life. He gave private cello and music theory lessons, and substituted at the conservatory. He also worked with groups of children. In 2023, following his meeting with Yegor Dyachkov, Sidony chose to further his education at the University of Montreal, where he also had the opportunity to work with cellist Chloé Dominguez. Additionally, Sidony explored the world of Baroque cello, working with Elena Andrejev in Paris from 2021 to 2022, and with Elinor Frey and Olivier Brau in Montreal from 2023 onwards. Contemporary music also important to him, having been introduced to it at an early age by his first teacher, Anaïs Moreau. He has performed pieces for amplified cello in his early years as a cellist. He also collaborated with composer Alexandre Amat as part of the University of Montreal's contemporary music ensemble in 2025. That same year, he was awarded third prize in the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne competition for his performance of André Prévost's piece Improvisation. Lastly, Sidony holds a deep appreciation for symphonic and chamber music. From 2020 to 2022, he performed with the CRR de Paris (DFO) Orchestra. In 2023, he joined the University of Montreal’s orchestra, serving as its principal cellist during their performance of Mahler’s Second Symphony. Additionally, he participated in the Kunerth mentorship program offered by the Orchestre Classique de Montréal in May 2025. He has also been involved in several one-off projects in Paris and Montreal, such as Strauss's Metamorphoses in June 2024 in Paris. He performed in a series of chamber music concerts in Corsica in 2022 with the Sacher Quartet, and recently joined the Impromptu Quartet, with whom he has been giving concerts since the summer of 2024.

What You'll Learn

The cello lessons I give are aimed at both young people and adults, whether they are complete beginners or already experienced players. My primary concern is to respond to the student's wishes (whether these relate to musical tastes, particular repertoires, or goals) by trying to offer the tools that I think are the most appropriate. I also want to help students discover things they might not have thought of. I also consider singing to be an essential tool for mastering an instrument, so I will encourage students to sing a bit during lessons. However, I understand that some people are not as comfortable singing as others, so I will adapt to make sure that everyone feels at ease. I will try as much as possible to play music with the student, as I believe it is very important to see music as something to be shared, regardless of skill level, and to encourage them to have their own experiences in the long term. If the first meeting goes well, I will be happy to continue the sessions and establish goals, both in the short term (for specific pieces) and in the long term (for the fundamental skills of the instrument).
