Education

  • Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance, University of Toronto

About

A classically trained mezzo-soprano from Caledonia, Ontario, Monica Lindsay has been involved in various genres of voice performance since the age of 7. With 14 years of choral experience, she has travelled to many countries including Hong Kong, the Bahamas, and the United States to perform in showcases for choral competitions. Some standout musical events she has performed at include: Pan AM Games Closing Ceremony (2015), World Youth and Children's Choir Festival (2019), Podium Conference (2019), American Choral Directors Association Conference (2017), and American CANTAT (2016). Now as a student at the University of Toronto, Monica is pursuing a 4-year Bachelor of Music (Voice Performance) and is currently in her 2nd year of the performance specialist program. Monica's biggest goal when teaching music is to keep everything fun. Music should never be a chore, regardless of why you are doing it. During lessons, you can be sure to learn proper healthy technique while being able to learn repertoire that you find engaging.

What You'll Learn

Beginner-Intermediate Voice and Piano lessons! I like to begin with a nice, fun technical warmup to get our voices ready to sing, and then delve into either hand-picked repertoire or pieces from an appropriate level of workbook. I enjoy teaching both classical technique as well as theatre and pop, so I am happy to address a wide variety of technical and performance challenges. My main goal is to make music fun while keeping our body healthy and using proper techniques so we can sing for as long as possible! I am also able to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced music theory, if you are interested in learning more about that during lessons. I have been performing with professional choirs and solo since the age of 7, travelling the world to do what I love. I am currently in my 3rd year of studying Classical Voice at the University of Toronto (in my second year of my Performance Specialist), which allows me to constantly learn new ways to make lessons fun and informative no matter what stage you are at in your journey of becoming a musician.
