What You'll Learn

Simply put, I believe that a trumpet lesson is a means to the goal of having fun playing the trumpet. We seek to perform music because we enjoy making it as well as listening to it, and a good education on the building blocks of good trumpet performance are what enable a student to perform more comfortably, to seek music to play no matter how challenging it may be - and consequently have more fun. I'm a proponent of the Arnold Jacobs school of Song and Wind, with a focus on relaxed breathing and blowing for successful results in brass performance. In my experience, the fundamentals of correct brass playing are applicable to any style - good airflow and a good breath will enable a student to play jazz, classical, contemporary, pop, folk, marching music, and anything in between. In the lessons, I divide the time between building a solid foundation of correct brass performance technique, and engaging whatever repertoire and/or style the student is interested in. If someone likes playing a kind of music, I am always happy to work that music with them.
