About

Celebrated Canadian musician, Jonathan C. Leung, appears worldwide as oboist, violinist and conductor. This season includes appearances in Belgium, Australia, Finland, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Austria and the United Kingdom. A highly sought after teacher, his students are accepted to prestigious universities and conservatories worldwide as well as winning top prizes in international competitions. Born in Toronto, Canada and raised in a distinguished family of renowned musicians, Mr. Leung began studying piano and violin at an early age. As a violinist, he has performed as concertmaster with many orchestras. Following the footsteps of his uncle, Kenneth Jean, who has conducted the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and Cleveland Orchestras, Mr. Leung is honoured to have the opportunity to share his music vision, as teacher, with talented students in Hong Kong. Besides sharing his music with his many talented students, Jonathan has performed as soloist, in Canada, United States, South Korea, Hong Kong and Europe. Mr. Leung has recently conducted the Wiener Residenz Orchester in Vienna, Austria to critical acclaim. In Hong Kong, Jonathan is a frequent performer and has appeared as soloist on RTHK Radio 4, TVB Pearl and at The Chinese University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Mr. Leung began studying the oboe at the age of fifteen and decided to further his music studies after winning several prizes and awards. Mr. Leung attended the Aspen Music Festival and School and the Boston Conservatory of Music on full scholarship, studying with Laura Ahlbeck of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as well as subsequent studies with Elaine Douvas, Linda Strommen and Keith Atkinson. Jonathan also studied chamber music with legendary Boston Symphony flutist Doriot Anthony Dwyer, Stephen Chenette, David Ohanian, Bärli Nugent and David Wakefield. Mr. Leung is on the artist roster of Crescendo Konzert Management in Switzerland and has served on the oboe faculty at Vianden International Music Festival and School in Luxembourg.
