Chinese-Canadian Pianist Isaac Jiang graduated from the University of British Columbia (B.Mus). Isaac also holds an ARCT Performance Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music. He is the recipient of many scholarships such as the Mildred Johnson and Maurice Taylor Scholarships in Music. While studying at UBC, Isaac experimented with composition in genres outside of classical such as contemporary and jazz. Isaac has won 1st place in multiple festivals including the Kiwanis and Richmond Music Festivals. He has over five years of professional performance experience and has performed at venues such as the Chan Centre, the Orpheum, and the Roy Barnett recital hall. Isaac has a unique and stress-free approach to teaching with an emphasis on movement created from a mind-to-body connection and ergonomic facilitations. He is experienced in teaching adults and children of all ages.
Each lesson is divided into 3 main sections: 1. Fundamental/Technical, 2. Repetoire, 3. Musicianship Context/Analysis/Musicianship (History/Theory). 1. Fundamentals: Scales, Rhythm studies. Additionally for novice students, Technical Exercises like Dozen a Day, Hanon, Czerny. For advanced students, Etudes and Technical Exercises based on those etudes (i.e "The Chopin Technic" by Levey). 2. Repertoire: For younger students, this will mostly be Piano adventures as well as student's request pieces. For advanced students this would be anything including RCM pieces and teachers choice concert etudes, concertos, etc. 3. Musicianship: includes aural skills (Ear training, sight-singing) musical analysis for context of the piece you are playing, or other necessary knowledge for supplementation.
