Hi! Im Cathy. I’m a violinist and music educator in Vancouver, currently preparing for my RCM Level 7 violin examination. I have completed RCM Level 5 Violin and level 8 theory with First Class Honours, and RCM Level 5 Piano with Honours. I currently perform in an orchestra with regular rehearsals and have experience performing in concerts and other live performances. I also teach beginner musicians through the Vancouver Youth Strings Ensemble, helping students with violin technique, music theory and piano accompaniment. I also enjoy helping children build confidence while learning at their own pace.

During the first lesson, I like to get to know the student’s experience and goals before introducing exercises suited to their level. For complete beginners, we can start with learning the parts of the violin, holding the instrument correctly and comfortably, and producing a clear sound. As students progress, I introduce scales, rhythm exercises, and beginner pieces to help them build their technique. My teaching is influenced by my RCM training and experience working with young musicians through Vancouver Youth Strings Ensemble. I mainly focus on classical violin, beginner repertoire and songs they enjoy playing. I adjust the pace of each lesson to suit the student. My goal is to make lessons enjoyable while helping students feel confident about their progress.
