A dedicated clarinetist based in Vancouver, I bring 15 years of rich teaching experience to students of all ages and abilities. As an active freelance performer, my musical work encompasses standard repertoire as well as specialized work on both Bb and bass clarinet. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree from the University of British Columbia, where I studied under Jose Franch-Ballester. Over the course of my training, I have also received master lessons from renowned artists including Corrado Giuffredi, Yehuda Gilad, Andreas Sundén, Kimball Sykes, and Kari Kriikku, among others. My pedagogical approach is tailored to foster strong technical fundamentals, artistic expression, and a deep, lasting love for music. Whether guiding beginners through their very first notes or mentoring advanced students preparing for auditions, I am passionate about inspiring growth at every stage of the musical journey.
Lessons are customized to each student's goals, whether you are picking up an instrument for the first time, working through school band repertoire, or preparing for university and audition entry. Across all levels, we focus on: -Core Fundamentals: Tone production, breath support, embouchure efficiency, precise articulation, and posture. -Musicianship & Artistry: Phrasing, dynamic control, musical interpretation, and sight-reading. -Instrument Maintenance & Setup: Equipment selection, reed adjustments, and practical troubleshooting to ensure your instrument works for you. Our initial session is relaxed, welcoming, and focused on setting you up for success.
