Education

  • Diploma in Contemporary Music and Technology (Music Composition & Audio Engineering), Selkirk College

About

I'm a graduate of Selkirk College's Contemporary Music and Technology program (majoring in music composition and audio engineering). My notable experience while at the school includes being a drummer for Nick Johnston during a live performance, and audio engineering a live show headlining Kiesza. I have been session drummer during recordings for studios such as 604 Records, Fader Mountain Sound, Blue Light Studios, and The Selkirk College Studio. Being a professional drummer, I've performed and toured in/around B.C. and Alberta, most recently performing in the Vancouver Jazz Festival and completing a tour with The Sophistocrats (Sophie D'Orleans). I'm the co-founder of Apricot Music Studios, a place that helps singer-songwriters who want to see their music come to life by providing expert-level recording, post-production, mixing, and mastering for original music.

What You'll Learn

Drums are the heartbeat of music. We're born with a beating heart and we feel that 100bpm in our bodies everyday whether we get exited, tired, or ambitious; our heartbeat will react with our day to day feelings. Learning drums and rhythm will teach you a unique ability to measure the pulse and heartbeat of every genre of music. I will teach you how to feel rhythm with your body and ears. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or a professional musician, listening and feeling is the cornerstone of being a drummer. Students can begin at any skill level. In my lessons you will learn how to read drum notation, how to write your own parts on the instrument, and how to analyze music as a drummer. I will teach you how to feel the beat of a metronome and use it to your advantage. You'll learn how to tune your drums, and learn about the different types of drum tones and shells. We'll take all of this knowledge and apply it to a real life band setting through fun and interactive lessons that will analyze your favourite music and bands.
