About

First steps in classical music Sabine Jacquet has a master's degree in arts teaching (music profile, UQÀM), a graduate certificate in music instrumental teaching as well as a specialized bachelor's degree in classical piano, jazz singing and musical writing (University of Montréal). It was at the age of 5 that she began her first piano lessons with the Canadian pianist and composer Sean Pepperall (First prize in composition at the Conservatory and member of the Société de Musique Contemporaine du Québec). During her high school studies, Sabine became a member of the Society for Research and Diffusion of Haitian Music (SRDMH) and performed for several years in various concerts organized by the Society, notably in a recital in 2007 as a guest pianist representing the next generation of Haitian musicians, along with Juno and ADISQ nominated pianist Alix Guéry Noël. The gospel music world Alongside her training in classical piano, Sabine discovered the world of gospel, pop-rock and drums at the age of 14. She began playing this instrument in various music groups at her local church after which she would be a lead singer accompanying herself on the piano in addition to being a choir director, accompanying pianist and back vocal singer in concerts featuring gospel artists from the international French-speaking scene such as Joseph Moussio (ICC Paris), Ugh Oufwey (Canada) and Constance Aman (Ivory Coast). Sabine is currently the assistant director of the music department of a multi-ethnic church and has actively contributed to the recruitment and training of new musicians and singers for over 12 years. Jazz singing and writing It was during her college studies in music (Cégep de Saint-Laurent) that Sabine first fell in love with jazz when she discovered the unique voices of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald in her musical literature class. This pushed her to join the jazz choir of the University of Montreal in 2011 and to intensively develop the interpretation of jazz singing under the mentorship of Vincent Morel (Ensemble Bémol 9) during her bachelor's degree in music. Creative in nature and wanting to be able to perform her own arrangements, Sabine also decided to work with the renowned arranger Jean-Nicolas Trottier (Orchestre National de Jazz de Montréal) in order to perfect her musical writing in jazz style. In this regard, Sabine knows how to put her creativity to good use by designing personnalized adaptations of songs or pieces in varied styles for her private piano students in order to enhance the pleasure and motivation of playing. Furthermore, it was during her undergraduate studies that Sabine had the opportunity to be a backing vocalist on numerous occasions in television shows on Radio-Canada such as En direct de l'univers or Pénélope McQuade, accompanying well-knowed singers like Dennis DeYoung of the group Styx, Marjo, Bruno Pelletier and France d'Amour. The teaching vocation Holder of a teaching certificate after successfully completing a qualifying master's degree at UQÀM, Sabine has been teaching music in primary schools in Quebec for 5 years to the great delight of her students who, week after week, experiment the rich benefits of collective music. Being warm, patient and attentive in addition to having 15 years of experience as a private music teacher in various establishments (music school, private teaching academy, communautary center, home studio, etc.) and with people of all ages, all ethnicities and all levels, we are convinced that Sabine will wonderfully guide you in your musical journey, whether you want to learn to play your favorite songs on the piano, sing while accompanying yourself on the keyboard, develop the art of improvisation or prepare yourself adequately for auditions or entrance exams for a graduate music program.
