Teaching Approach and Lesson Topics:

The approach I take to teaching my students is to always prioritize their needs and goals for learning music. I believe that in order for students to fully develop their musical abilities, they must be taught music that they will truly enjoy and feel comfortable performing. When a student enjoys and feels comfortable performing a piece, they have a stronger need to want to perform the song to the best of their abilities, and as a result, have a stronger need to learn and develop the skills they need to learn and develop in order to do so.

For the instrument lessons I give, I always begin the lesson with a simple vocal or piano exercise so that the vocalist or pianist is able to warm up their voice or fingers before playing a piece and make it less likely that they strain their voice or fingers when they sing or play. After the exercise is finished, we work on the song I am currently teaching them either wholly or in parts depending on the student’s individual troubles or concerns with the piece at that moment in time.

Lesson Topics:
• Proper breathing and vocal technique
• Proper finger positioning and technique to piano students
