I teach recorder/clarinet/saxophone/flute/trumpet/trombone/baritone/piano/music theory at all levels, from beginner to professional.
I prepare students for the Royal Conservatory practical examinations at all levels, as well as for auditions, local and international music competitions, and music festivals. I teach fundamentals of wind playing, including correct posture, breathing, articulation technique, fingerings, rhythm, and sight-reading skills. I strive to help students express themselves musically, as we discuss phrasing, dynamic control, and tone quality. The program of study is always carefully thought out and developed according to personal goals and objectives of each student. I strive to help every student develop necessary skills to become independent music explorers, and to be able to enjoy playing music for life.
As a music educator who had a chance to work in different cultural and social environments, I always strive for a greater flexibility of my teaching approach, employing a variety of methods with a “dialogue” as a key aspect of my concept of teaching. My responsibility as a teacher is to create a safe, constructive, and dynamic learning environment in which my students’ hard work and willingness to study are appreciated and supported. My goal is to encourage them to participate actively in the learning process. I am constantly searching for better, more efficient ways to approach my students, to arouse and maintain their intellectual curiosity.
Education:
I hold PhD and Master’s of Arts Degree in Music Education from the University of Toronto, as well as Master’s Degree in Music Performance cum laude from the Moscow P. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance cum laude from Moscow State Conservatory Music College. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Wind Ensemble Conducting and Wind Pedagogy from Moscow State Conservatory Music College.
As a professional clarinettist and saxophonist, I’ve been affiliated with many symphony and chamber orchestras around the world. As a soloist, I’ve performed in Russia, Israel, USA, Canada, and Kazakhstan, and have taken part in various International Music Festivals, such as International Klezmer Music Festival in Zfat, Israel.
I have an extensive experience in music performing, wind ensemble conducting, music education, and teaching woodwinds, brass, piano, and music theory internationally at different levels, from individual, studio, and conservatory to public schools and university.
In addition to my teaching experience, I served as a wind orchestra, band, and ensemble Music Director, where I managed repertoire selection, supervised teaching woodwinds, auditions, and adjudicated at various international music festivals and competitions. Currently, I serve as a Member of the Academy and Jury Boards of the ENKOR Wind/Brass and Chamber Music Competition.
My research papers were presented at several international conferences, and published in several periodicals and essay collections in Canada and internationally, most recently for the European House for Culture: Access to Culture Platform.
